Then And Now

In 1965 Ford Motor Company did an amazing thing at took a 1965 Ford Mustang and carried all of its parts up the elevator to the top of the Empire State Building in New York City. I'm sure that this was a task that took many hours and labor to meet the challenge.

So for the 50th. Anniversary of the Ford Mustang they decided to do it all over again.

Once they got the pieces to the top they reassembled the car on the 86th floor.

Where were you on October 20, 1965 when our white Ford Mustang reached glorious new heights? Tell us if you remember watching the stunt on the Empire State Building!

No, it’s not an urban legend. In 1965, Ford’s team of automotive “surgeons” carried out Operation Mustang. The mission: Put a ’66 Mustang on the Empire State Building by disassembling the ‘stang, lifting each piece via elevators, and then assembling it back to health on the 86th floor observation deck of the world’s tallest building at the time. “It’s impossible,” many said. But we did it.
